Ancillary Medical Services Manager – ENCORE Full Time

Position Summary

Primarily responsible for the oversight of operations of all departments of responsibility including day-to-day clinical operations of assigned areas with regard to patient care management, resource management, fiscal management, knowledge and adherence to TJC, federal and state regulations. Participates in direct care as needed, with the remaining time involving managerial tasks. Development and retention of department specific team members in each area of responsibility. Collaborates with other Department designees in sharing of staff and resources. Implement cross-training between all departments of responsibility. Assumes the leadership role in individual area of expertise and for projects as assigned. Assumes, under the direction of the Laboratory, responsibility for patient specimen testing, quality control, quality improvement, and equipment maintenance. Coordination of fiscal responsibilities for all departments of responsibility to maximize operations and minimize expenses.

Primary Duties

Managerial Tasks:
1.Assists in the overall operation of the hospital through active participation in projects aimed at achieving the hospital’s mission and incorporates the values of the hospital in day-to-day activities.
2.Uses data, planning, communication and education to improve performance.
3.Supports a safe, quality environment for patients and staff.
4.Assists in the selection of staff, equipment, supplies and goods, for the running of the hospital, and caring for patients, with goals of quality and cost efficiency.
5.Communicates with staff and physicians on administrative issues and follows-up to bring closure to such issues.
6.Operates within budgetary parameters.
7.Responsible for appropriate staffing levels to accommodate patient acuity and volume.
8.Participates in selecting outside sources for needed services
9.Conducts performance reviews of staff and assists in the development of staff in collaboration with the Education Coordinator
10.Assumes a leadership role in the maintenance of the patient-focused care delivery system.
11.Plans and Develops annual competency reviews of staff and assists in staff development in collaboration with the Chief Clinical Officer and Education Department.
12.Supports the multi-skilled worker environment (i.e., cross training).
13.Assists staff in problem-solving and work issues.
14.Responsible for hiring competent staff for the department.
15.Responds to issues of harassment and discrimination per company policy.

Patient Care:
1.Actively participates in administering patient care and management of related service.
2.Able to assess patient appropriately, interpret results accurately and suggest alternative treatment.
3.Ability to adapt modes of therapy based on clinical expertise
4.Must be able to prioritize work assignments.
5.Must be able to work independently, demonstrating respect for patient’s rights and confidentiality.
6.Able to communicate effectively with physicians, patients, and co-workers.
7.Documents by exception and communicates to physicians and nurses all pertinent information.
8.Involves patient and significant others in the care activities as a means of informing and teaching.
9.Actively assists the physicians in the clinical management of patients.
10.Administers medications according to hospital policy.
11.Effectively and efficiently receives/interprets telephone and verbal orders and documents appropriately.
12.Demonstrates knowledge and ability to use necessary patient equipment.
13.Demonstrates ability to react calmly and effectively in an emergency situation.
14.Performs Point of Care procedures in a timely manner according to established policy and procedure. Documents required information and complies with all Point of Care quality control standards.
15.Assures that patient equipment and supplies are available and in working order.
16.Participates in performance improvement activities such as patient satisfaction, physician satisfaction, and staff satisfaction performing surveys as necessary.
17.Identifies and implements corrective actions as necessary. Monitors annual quality indicators for compliance to standards.
18.Applies the knowledge of growth and development to appropriate patient populations.
19.Maintains personal responsibility for professional growth and development.
20.Ensures the provision of a safe and comforting environment.
21.Collaborates with staff, physicians, patients and family members to provide information necessary to provide high quality patient care.
22.Maintains patient confidentiality.
23.Maintains universal precautions.

Qualifications/Specifications

  • Education: Bachelor degree in healthcare related profession required.
  • Licensure/Certification: Current BLS and ACLS certifications required.  PALS certification preferred and required within 1 year of employment.
  • Experience: Minimum of three years continuous clinical experience in a critical/acute care setting required. Minimum of 1 year Supervisory/Management experience preferred.
